Peter has worked as a manager in international freight forwarding, consulted worldwide on supply chain matters for Deloitte, and run academic and company programmes for Cranfield University. He is currently an independent consultant / trainer, as well as being a Visiting Fellow of Cranfield School of Management.
Peter spent the first ten years of his career in international freight forwarding, conducting export and import freight movements and ship's agency work. He left his position as branch office manager to take an MSc degree course at Cranfield. After a period with a specialist materials handling and distribution consultancy, he worked for twelve years with Deloitte Consulting in their Supply Chain and Consumer Business divisions.
During this period in consultancy, he conducted over 70 supply chain projects across a wide range of industries and public sector organisations. He has undertaken projects in many European countries, as well as in North America, the Far East, Central Asia, West Africa and the Middle East. These projects have included supply chain strategy, procurement, international logistics, distribution centre design, inventory control, transport operations and supporting computer systems. He then spent 12 years as a Lecturer, and then a Senior Lecturer, at Cranfield University. He is currently an independent consultant and a Visiting Fellow at the Cranfield Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management. He lectures on such areas as warehousing and distribution centre design, as well as running supply chain simulation business games.
Peter has a BA degree in Economics, an MSc degree in Distribution Technology and Management, and a PhD (entitled The Role, Design and Operation of Distribution Centres in Agile Supply Chains). He is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Peter is co-author of The Handbook of Logistics and Distribution Management and UK Warehouse Benchmarking Report, as well as editor of The Principles of Warehouse Design.
